Across the United Kingdom, Black entrepreneurs are building businesses across fashion, beauty, home décor, food, and lifestyle products. Their brands reflect a range of creative influences, from African textiles and Caribbean heritage to contemporary design and botanical skincare.

Some have established international audiences, while others are growing through independent retail, e-commerce, and partnerships with larger retailers.

In recognition of UK Black History Month, we’ve updated our guide to highlight brands worth discovering. This list will continue to expand as we identify and verify additional businesses.

Fashion and Accessories

Kai Collective

Founded in 2016 by Fisayo Longe, Kai Collective is a contemporary womenswear label known for bold prints, expressive silhouettes, and statement pieces. The brand grew out of Longe’s fashion and travel blogging, where her interest in sourcing fabrics and creating original designs developed into a business.

Uptown Yardie

Founded by Rohan Clarke, Uptown Yardie is a footwear and lifestyle brand inspired by Jamaican heritage. The label combines traditional shoemaking with Caribbean cultural influences, offering shoes, hats, clothing, and accessories.

Grass-fields

Grass-fields creates womenswear inspired by African textiles and contemporary fashion. Its collections include dresses, matching sets, and statement pieces featuring colourful prints and distinctive silhouettes. The company designs its clothing in-house, with much of its production taking place in Cameroon and Nigeria.

Wales Bonner

Founded in 2014 by designer Grace Wales Bonner, the luxury fashion label explores the relationship between fashion, music, and cultural identity. Its collections bring together European tailoring with influences from African and Caribbean traditions, spanning menswear, womenswear, footwear, and accessories.

Tolu Coker

Designer Tolu Coker launched her namesake label in 2021, drawing inspiration from her Nigerian heritage and experiences growing up in London. Her collections combine tailoring, textile experimentation, and storytelling, often incorporating reclaimed materials and references to family history, migration, and cultural identity.

Afrocenchix

Founded by Rachael Corson and Joycelyn Mate, Afrocenchix develops haircare products for curls, coils, and Afro-textured hair. Its range includes shampoos, conditioners, moisturisers, and scalp treatments, with an emphasis on plant-based ingredients and healthy hair routines.

Flora & Curl

Founded by Rose Ovensehi, Flora & Curl creates plant-focused haircare products for curly and textured hair. Its collection includes cleansers, conditioners, styling creams, and treatments designed to support different curl patterns and simplify natural hair routines.

Root2Tip

Root2Tip specialises in haircare products for curls, coils, and Afro-textured hair. Its range includes moisturising treatments, scalp products, detanglers, and children’s haircare, alongside educational resources on maintaining healthy hair.

LIHA Beauty

Founded by Abi Oyepitan and Liha Okunniwa, LIHA Beauty draws on Yoruba beauty traditions and botanical ingredients. Its skincare and bodycare collections include shea butter, body oils, and other formulations inspired by the founders’ cultural backgrounds.

Soapsmith

Founded by Samantha Jameson, Soapsmith creates bath and bodycare products inspired by London’s neighbourhoods. Its fragrances reference places including Hackney, Bloomsbury, and Brick Lane, with a collection spanning soaps, body washes, lotions, and home fragrance.

Eva Sonaike

Founded by designer Eva Sonaike, the luxury interiors brand combines West African design influences with contemporary home décor. Its collections include cushions, fabrics, wallpaper, rugs, lampshades, and decorative accessories featuring colourful patterns and distinctive prints.

Osime Home

Osime Home creates colourful homeware and lifestyle accessories inspired by African art and design. Its collections include illustrated wall art, cushions, and decorative pieces.

Food and Drink

The Black Farmer

Founded by Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, The Black Farmer produces a range of food products, including sausages, meats, baked goods, and Caribbean-inspired offerings. The brand is particularly known for its gluten-free products and has expanded into retail locations and online sales.

Olu Olu Foods

Olu Olu Foods began more than three decades ago with instant pounded yam flour, making traditional West African meals easier to prepare. The company has since expanded into plantain chips, gari, coconut products, spices, and other pantry staples. Its products are distributed internationally, reaching customers in more than 25 countries.

Dalgety Teas

Founded by Mark Dalgety, Dalgety Teas produces herbal and fruit infusions inspired by Caribbean ingredients and traditions. Its collection includes ginger, sorrel, peppermint, soursop, and other botanical blends, available as tea bags and instant preparations.

Saida’s Kitchen

Saida’s Kitchen develops ready-to-use cooking sauces inspired by African cuisine. Its range includes Moroccan, Ethiopian, and Somali-style sauces designed to bring traditional flavours into everyday home cooking. The company has participated in Sainsbury’s Thrive programme for emerging food and beverage businesses.

Jerk Centre

Founded by Elka Paquette, Jerk Centre produces Jamaican-inspired sauces and marinades rooted in family recipes and Caribbean cooking traditions. Its products are designed for home cooks looking to prepare jerk chicken, grilled meats, vegetables, and other dishes.

ChicSnacks

Founded by Hannah Jolaoso, ChicSnacks specialises in Nigerian-inspired snacks, including chin-chin, a crunchy fried pastry popular across West Africa. The company also offers prepared Nigerian dishes and delivery services for customers across the UK.
