We often talk about the importance of shopping at Black-owned businesses—but what about shopping for Black-owned businesses? Despite growing interest in economic collaboration, one high-impact strategy remains underutilized: strategic mergers between Black-owned businesses. While major corporations merge to scale and dominate markets, small and medium-sized Black-owned businesses rarely pursue this approach—often due to systemic barriers rather than lack of opportunity. Yet, successful mergers in banking and tech prove that combining forces can unlock growth, competitiveness, and wealth creation. Success Stories:

In the face of raging wildfires that have scarred

In the face of raging wildfires that have scarred parts of Los Angeles, a force of resilience has emerged from the ashes: the city’s Black-owned businesses. From restaurateurs serving hot meals to fashion brands donating essential supplies, these businesses are redefining what it means to be part of a community under siege. Shout out to the businesses listed below. @earlesoncrenshaw has partnered with a Pasadena church to distribute its famous hot dogs, groceries, clothing, hygiene products, and baby supplies to fire victims. @mr_fries_man has partnered with First AME Zion Church to provide meals and essential supplies to seniors, children, and families impacted by the wildfires. @taco_mell has been distributing burritos to firefighters battling the blaze, as well as to displaced residents. @octavias_bookshelf has temporarily shifted its focus from literature to becoming a hub for distributing free essential supplies, including bottled water, hygiene items, clothing, and food. @walkgoodla has mobilized to collect and distribute food, clothing, and other necessities to hundreds of residents affected by the fires. @carlasfreshmarket, a local food market, is hosting a bake sale with proceeds benefiting World Central Kitchen, an organization providing meals to families and first responders. @totencarry has donated luggage to evacuation centers and shelters in Pasadena and Altadena, helping those who had to leave their homes quickly. @activelyblack joined the relief efforts by donating new clothing to those affected by the wildfires. @sailorsbrewcoffee has partnered with @perrysjoint to provide complimentary continental breakfasts every Sunday. @afropunk joined forces with @walkgoodla , @spillmob, and other community-driven organizations.
